There’s no point in making new year’s resolutions. They are usually too ambitious. And if you fail, you tend to abandon all hope. It’s better to think of the first quarter and define achievable goals.

So here are my rules for Q1 2025. I’m starting on January 6th.

  • Bulletproof coffee and apple cider vinegar in water to start the day.
  • Six days a week, 1-2 low-carb meals.
  • If I’m having a morning meal, it will usually be eggs.
  • At least 2 litres of water a day.
  • Press-ups, back exercises (at least 5 days a week).
  • 30 minutes on the exercise bike or at least 6500 steps a day or a swim (at least 5 days a week).
  • No seed oils. In the house, we only use olive oil, tallow, lard and butter to cook. Avoid them as best possible out of the house.
  • No alcohol, but… see below.
  • Switch off by 2100. In bed by 2200, even if just to read.
  • No stationery or book purchases in Q1, unless necessary for work. Generally minimise spend.

Cheat day rules:

  • One cheat day a week for a break.
  • Usually this will be Saturday. I will take it easy.
  • If I must have a drink, it should be on the cheat day.
  • Besides cheat days, I will allow 2 passes in Q1 for flexibility.
