What Have I Done to Deserve this?
I have a cold and I’m having trouble getting going today. I’ve cancelled appointments. It’s 0 degrees outside and I suspect the sudden drop in temperature is causing everyone to get ill.
All I must do today is get the dogs walked and head out to a 50th birthday party. It seems like a struggle to be frank. I’d better not weigh myself - the last thing I need is to break the scales.
Officially it is cheat day. So here are some pancakes I don’t deserve. For lunch I will have soup and for dinner I expect I’ll get something at a pub, provided I’m well enough to get out.
Sadder news: I’m typing this on a MacBook Pro 2012 that I bought around the same time. It has 16GB RAM and 512GB of SSD. At the time I bought it, it was the top of the range. The screen is lovely and big. The keyboard still works but the trackpad has some quirks. I replaced the battery in it last year myself. But Apple decided to make Catalina the last OS release for this machine.
From a security point of view, I don’t use it for anything important. It’s still working, and it seems a shame, but I can’t get applications for it anymore. I’m typing this on the desktop version of the Hemingway Editor, which still works. Visual Studio Code refuses to stay open for more than 5 minutes. Perhaps it’s time to put this Mac away.
