Every time I start a fast for Lent, something comes along and knocks me sideways. In fact, today a couple of things have done so. One of these is the death of an ex-colleague unexpectedly. Last year it was something personal and in 2021, an old friend died.

Of course, the temptation is to stop fasting and go and relax a bit. But it is not the right thing to do.

This morning I weighed in a 82.8kg, which means for the first time in a long time my BMI is under 25. This means the NHS thinks I have a healthy weight. It is the lowest I weighed for some time.

I was not desperately hungry today, so I’m getting used to the fasting. If I keep going like this, all will be well. So it is worth it.
